Happy Birth Month to ME!
"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate."—Oprah Winfrey
I have so many things I want to talk about. In fact, I have 3 posts sitting half-finished in the drafts section of my blog. But I am currently on the train heading home after an amazing time at BEA, and I just can't seem to wrap my head around my thoughts. Or maybe it's the other way around.
So I decided to throw all caution to the wind and just talk about the fact that today is June 1, the beginning of the marvelous holiday called "Sera's Birth Month." It is just too exciting not to talk about.
See, I never celebrated my birthday growing up. We weren't allowed. My first birthday celebration happened when I was 13. My mother took me to a music store in the mall and said, "Buy anything you want. It's your birthday!" At first, I thought it was an evil joke, or maybe a test. But no, she really meant it. I spent an hour staring at the walls of cassette tapes (yes, I know I am dating myself).
I bought Mötley Crüe's Dr. Feelgood and my world was changed forever.
My first real birthday party didn't happen until I turned 14. Ever since, I've always felt the need to make up for all those lost birthdays. And just like sleep, you can never make up for lost time. But I certainly can celebrate my existence for an entire month, and never feel guilty about it.
Lavish of me, you think? Nonsense. You should try it!
Celebration for me really means many, many small festivities, such as going to the park and reading that "must-read-right-now" book I haven't had time for, or eating lunch with a friend I haven't seen in ages.
And then, of course, I have two big celebrations. One with family. One with friends. And it means so much to me to spend time with all those I love and who love me back.
Over the course of the month, I'd like to include you all in my birthday festivities. So look out for some fun writing prompts and quizzes—and even some give-a-ways!
In the meantime, all I want for my birthday is more followers on my Facebook Page. So please head on over and LIKE my page. It's the best way for us to stay in touch.
What do you do to celebrate your birthday? I'd love some ideas.
